Couples everywhere are loving chalkboard wedding details. From welcome signs to mason jar drink labels, it’s easy to DIY your own chalkboard bits and bobs for your wedding with the generous amount of free printables and downloads online and with great products readily available at your local craft store. Did you know that you can even get chalkboard paint in a variety of colors to match your color palette?
I’ve loved chalkboard paint from the moment it became available years ago. At first, it was primarily for interior painting and I found it perfect for my kiddo’s room, because all parents know that it’s inevitable your kid is going to “express” his or herself on your walls. When it started becoming available for crafting, I did the best I could to try out several brands and my particular go to is Folk Art. It has a great consistency and once dry, your chalk is easily readable. It comes in several colors: black, green, pink, purple, brown, red, slate grey, blue, and white.
Once you have a chalkboard surface, what’s the best type of chalk to use? Well, if it’s just for a family get together, kid craft, etc., then I think using the basic box you can get from your grocery or office store will do just fine. For a wedding, I would suggest a small set of dustless chalk or chalkboard markers from your craft or art supply store. My preference is for chalkboard markers. They give you a great consistent saturated print, can’t be wiped off just by brushing the surface, and can be easily cleaned up with a wet sponge or rag.
